|13-0342 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM COORDINATOR, RECREATION DIV, COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPT. HIRING RANGE: $12.50/HR. TEMP, PART TIME 1:30-5:30 PM, M-F DURING SCHOOL YEAR. OCCASIONAL VARIED HOURS, INCLUDING WEEKENDS, NIGHTS, AND MORNINGS.
|DEFINITION: Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Leader, monitors youth, leads activities, and constructively interacts with middle school aged youth who participate in the after school program. Position will start August 1. Duties will be performed at the school site as well as at various contractor venues around the city.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Effectively work with youth and colleagues in order to sustain a quality afterschool program that is engaging and fun for youth and continually promotes youth development. Plan and lead daily implementation of activities and clubs as well as special events that will enhance the after school program. Utilize input from youth regarding program ideas and interests to create a monthly calendar of events. Proactively communicate expectations to students to reinforce a respectful and positive environment. Oversee program assistants to ensure effective implementation of program. Evaluate program needs and effectively communicate with staff and colleagues to initiate change. Position requires a highly motivated individual with strong communication and organizational skills, a creative and collaborative spirit, and a love working with youth.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work involves exposure to noise (20-40 youth of middle school age, music, and games) on a daily basis. Requires the ability to communicate in both oral and written form, read and understand a variety of written materials, work under stress, and manage multiple concurrent tasks and interruptions. Requires working alone, as well as working closely with others, including the public (primarily youth and their families), businesses, school and church leaders, co-workers, and other youth serving professionals. Confidentiality is required. Work will frequently require transporting youth to activities using a city vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age. High School degree required plus any combination of experience and education equivalent to one year working with youth. Special Qualifications: Possession a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
