|DEFINITION: Perform a variety of installation, maintenance, and repair duties in the operation and maintenance of the Water Distribution, Collection and Drainage Systems including reservoirs, pump stations, line maintenance and repair, ditch and in-let and water meter calibration and repair. Water Utilities Technician II is a career level position that requires employees to be self-directed in their work approach and to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skills related to the distribution, collection, and storm water systems.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer, water and drainage lines and ditches. Troubleshoot and identify wastewater collection system and water distribution system problems. Perform duties as part of a work crew during emergency repairs. Assist with excavation activities. Operate a variety of hand and power tools, heavy equipment and other pieces of equipment. Comply with pertinent safety standards, traffic laws, traffic control policies, applicable State and Federal Water Quality requirements, ordinances, and rules while performing tasks. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. Perform maintenance on fire hydrants, valves, manholes, tanks, & lift stations. Take and record various readings such as meters, flow monitors, equipment, pumps, etc. Perform inspections, installations and troubleshooting water meters and related devices. Perform investigations regarding problems with a customer’s water service. Operate snow plows and liquid de-icer trucks while performing snow and ice removal. Work with streets repair crews. Respond to service calls, including emergency on-call shifts, within 20 to 30 minutes of notification.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed outside and inside both night and day shifts, under varying and extreme weather conditions. Work includes exposure to noise, dust, gases and oils, solvents and chemicals. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body is needed. Position requires the ability to work under time constraints and in confined spaces and the use of respirators. This is a heavy labor position, requiring frequent and consistent heavy lifting, walking, and standing in the performance of duties. The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.
QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of education & experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade plus three years of experience performing distribution, collection, and storm water system repair, installation, and maintenance. Possession of Class “B” Colorado CDL with “N” Tanker endorsement is required within 6 mo. of employment. Candidates must possess a Class 4 and a Class 3 Collection or Distribution Certification or clearly demonstrate the ability to obtain one Class 3 certification and one Class 4 certification by the end of the 6 month probationary period. Selection process will include complete job description review, personal interview, physical abilities test, drug screen, and criminal background check. CDL holders will be required to complete the FMCSR disclosure form.
