|DEFINITION: Receive, record and process cash payments and other City funds, and perform related work as required. *This position will serve as back up on a temporary basis to fill in for staff during times of illness or vacation.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Receive revenue from the public and City departments in payment of utility bills, sales tax, fees and parking fines. Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and respectful service, and assist customers in resolving discrepancies in payments. Calculate and issue change. Enter and retrieve utility billing and other data on a computer terminal, including parking fine receipts, sales tax payments and other miscellaneous receipts. Answer central switchboard telephone and refer callers to appropriate party. Promptly process payments received by mail or walk-in customers. Assist with the daily balancing of all City cash receipts. Balance and prepare summaries of daily receipts and cash.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office environment and requires sitting for up to 6 hours daily and frequent light lifting (up to 15 lbs). Job entails data entry for approximately 4-6 hours daily requiring repetitive motion and use of fingers and both hands. Work environment requires use of visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time and constant use of fingers and both hands. Work requires constant customer contact in person and on the phone requiring verbal communication and working alone or closely with others.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and one year of experience in customer service, cashiering, data entry and central switchboard operation. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred.
