13-0445 Operations & Maint Tech Lead
DEFINITION:  The primary role of this position is in water and wastewater treatment facility maintenance with additional duties to serve as support to plant operations staff. Preference will be given to applicants with three years experience working in maintenance at a water or wastewater treatment facility and who can demonstrate a high level of skill and knowledge relating to working on large pumps and blowers with 100 horse power and above. It is preferred that applicants be familiar with the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) in large industrial plants and who have experience with vibration and oil analysis as well as experience with instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:  This is a career level position within Water and Wastewater Treatment that requires employees to be self-directed in their work approach, and to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skills related to treatment plant operations and maintenance.  General duties may include:  1) monitoring treatment plant functions through reading gauges, meters, and computerized monitoring systems, 2) performing process control tests and evaluating results to determine treatment process requirements, 3) calculating operating performance and taking appropriate action,4) assisting with implementation of preventative maintenance programs and use of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and 5) assisting with maintaining and repairing pumps, valves, blowers, generators, automatic polymer dispensers, motors, compressors, and chemical feed equipment.  In addition to their core assignment, employees participate in the Department’s Workforce Flexibility program which additionally compensates for skill blocks in operations, maintenance, and instrumentation/process control.  Training will be provided as needed to develop flexible skills and knowledge.  

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  Work is performed outside and inside during night and day shifts, under varying and extreme weather conditions; job includes working rotating shifts and working weekends and holidays. Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and the use of hand tools, power equipment and laboratory equipment.  Position requires the ability to work under time constraints and in confined spaces and the use of respirators.  The successful candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade with course work in mathematics, chemistry, and biology, and up to four years of experience in a labor trades job with additional experience in the routine repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment and machinery.  Possession of a Colorado Class A, B, C, or D Operators Certificate or the ability to obtain within two testing cycles from the date of hire and a valid Colorado Driver's License required.
