|DEFINITION: Plan, develop, coordinate and supervise community athletic recreation and leisure programs, activities, and/or events to provide a wide range of opportunities for various interest and ability levels of participants. Under the direction of the Recreation Manager this position will program for youth and adult athletics and supervise staff in the areas of athletics, concessions, athletic field maintenance and front desk staff.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Assist in the development and implementation of youth recreation program goals, objectives, policies, and priorities. Identify community needs and recommend appropriate programs. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreation programs, which include athletics, fitness, concessions and, front desk staff, Develop and implement schedules for various youth and adult sports leagues. Provide general supervision and coaching of regular and temporary employees. Marketing of recreational services and programs. Supervise and oversee athletic field maintenance staff. Coordinate athletic and leisure services activity programs and park facilities with other City departments and divisions and outside agencies. Interview, hire, train and supervise full-time and part-time employees, contract workers and volunteers. Review and respond to reports from programming staff such as program evaluations, incident reports and patron evaluations. Respond to public relations issues or difficult complaints. Address various Recreation Center issues and concerns including responsibility for the gymnasium including equipment repair and replacement. Prepare purchase requisition, order equipment and materials. Prepare budget information.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office environment as well as at a variety of indoor and outdoor sites including ball fields, tennis courts, tracks, swimming pools etc. Requires ability to travel to and from recreational sites on short notice. Work involves exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, silica, and working around machinery.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and education equivalent to a BA with major coursework in public or private recreation or a closely related field plus 4 to 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in programming recreation athletics, leisure and general leisure. Must have experience in supervising regular and temporary staff. Preference given to applicants with a well-rounded experience in a variety of recreation fields. Must possess valid Colorado driver’s license.
