13-0163 SUMMER PROGRAM ASSISTANT, LONGMONT MUSEUM & CULTURAL CENTER, COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPT. HIRING RANGE: $11.00 - $12.00/HR. TEMPORARY/SEASONAL, M-F 8-5 UP TO 11 WEEKS (EARLY JUNE-EARLY AUGUST).
DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Curator of Education, assists in the implementation of summer programs. This is a temporary position lasting from June 3rdth to August 16th up to 35 hours per week.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Act as program assistant for the Museum’s summer children’s programs in the areas of art, history, culture and LEGO. Responsibilities include helping the Summer Program Instructor, the Curator of Education and the contract presenters in preparation, organization, and implementation of lesson plans for the summer programs; assisting in the supervision of elementary school-aged children and museum volunteer staff and helping to ensure the safety of the children during each program session; working with the Curator of Education to update program plans and maintain binders and files of information pertaining to the program.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office environment, a classroom environment and in an outdoor environment. Some activities take place off site. Work environment includes exposure to sun, dirt, water, and all types of weather conditions. Classroom and outdoor work requires standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, and carrying and lifting up to 40 lbs.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma and any combination of education and work experience equivalent to two years of college or two years of experience working with elementary school-aged children. Educational background or current enrollment in a museum education program, museum studies program, elementary education program or equivalent preferred. Ability to use a personal computer for email and operate Microsoft Office Word and Excel required. Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign preferred.
