|DEFINITION: Perform engineering duties in support of field projects and operations within the Public Works & Natural Resources Department primarily in water and wastewater treatment. General work will include a wide variety of tasks related to field support to projects, project management, engineering studies and evaluations, compliance review, preparation of written reports, and support to operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Serve as engineering technical support to the Operations Division on routine and minor projects related to the process optimization and engineering of the water and wastewater treatment facilities. Participate in the development of procedures, designs, plans, and specifications. Perform engineering fieldwork. Participates in the evaluation, modeling, and optimization of operations processes and facilities. Perform routine operation duties to develop a familiarity with standard procedures with an emphasis on reviewing procedures and discovering methods to improve operations and document revised procedures or critical observations. Review construction plans prepared by consulting engineers. Perform field inspections and oversight on various projects under the direction of project engineer or project manager. Prepare periodic project status reports. Provide performance and task analysis required to complete projects. Perform engineering studies under direction of manager, project engineer or project manager. Research publications and industry information sources.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is mostly performed in an office environment; there is some field work for understanding of operational processes. Reading, writing, editing, use of math, logical reasoning, self-learning, and multitasking are daily activities. Requires exceptional ability to communicate in oral and written form for individuals and in group settings. Occasional travel to attend meetings, training and presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or completion of at least the third year of study for a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or related field, and two years of work experience in utility operations, project management, or Civil/Environmental field engineering. Current Colorado driver's license required.
