|DEFINITION: Under the direction of the PWNR Construction Inspection Supervisor performs office and field work for utility, water distribution, wastewater collection, street and transportation and other public works, natural resources and municipal projects. Insure compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, standards, plans, and specifications.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Ensure the proper installation of infrastructure through established construction inspection techniques. Participate in and support actions to create a work culture in the Division and Work Group that is focused on excellence, accountability for results, customer service, teamwork, and support of the Department and City. Assume a supporting role in the inspection work group within the Engineering Services Division, including assisting in planning strategies based on existing and future needs of the City’s water, wastewater, storm drainage and street and transportation systems. Coordinate activities with other work groups, divisions, departments, outside agencies, and the general public. Assist in developing and making recommendations on implementation of City standards, codes and specifications. Make recommendations related to the planning, design and implementation of the City’s capital program for transportation, utility, and public works projects. Understand, interpret, and ensure compliance with all applicable City, Regional, State and Federal rules, ordinances, regulations and guidelines. Assist in planning, analyzing and making recommendations for capital improvement projects.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed outdoors in the field. Work involves exposure to sun, noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, confined spaces, moving vehicles, machinery, and all types of weather conditions. There may be occasional exposure to solvents, grease, oils, pesticides, herbicides, and water. Work will involve walking or standing, frequently on slippery or uneven surfaces, for up to 6 hours per day. Work requires pulling, pushing, reaching, use of fingers and hands, climbing, crawling, bending, twisting, kneeling, and squatting. Must have correctable near and far vision, ability to distinguish colors, hear, speak, and write. Work requires ability to read and understand documents, blueprints, and maps. Position requires ability to work under stress with constant interruptions and perform multiple concurrent tasks, perform detailed work, solve problems, use reasoning, and deal with customers is required. Frequently requires working non-traditional often protracted hours, particularly during construction periods.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and two to three years of experience in maintenance and repair work associated with public works facilities or the construction trades, including specialized training in construction inspection methods, the use of testing equipment, and experience in the inspection of public improvement projects. Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s license required. It is desirable for applicant to have a Level 1 Water Distribution and a Wastewater Collection certification, a Traffic Control Supervisor certification from the American Traffic Safety Services Association, a Colorado Department of Transportation Erosion Control certification, and Colorado Department of Transportation Level 1 Concrete Inspection certification.
