|DEFINITION: Under supervision of the Metering and Load Research Coordinator, complete an assigned daily route recording meter readings to document consumption of electricity and water for billing purposes. Monitor and document information retrieved from the City’s electric and water meters.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Document readings from electric and water meters on assigned routes. Record consumption figures and enter messages in hand-held recording devices. Check meters located in customer’s yards, basements, meter pits, and in City manholes. Reset demand meters. Document and report unusual consumption, malfunctioning meters or signs of tampering with City meters. Prepare work orders for the repair of malfunctioning or damaged meters. Perform uploading and downloading of information between hand-held recording device and personal computer.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed outside in varied and extreme weather conditions. Work requires walking and standing for up to six hours per day, walking on slippery or uneven surfaces, and walking at a pace that enables completion of assigned routes within the work shift. Work will involve entering customer’s private property, which may include encounters with threatening animals. There will be frequent exposure to sun and occasional exposure to noise, dust, and moving vehicles. Requires correctable near and far vision and ability to distinguish colors. Ability to work overtime and flexible schedule as requested by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and any work experience and possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License. Preference will be given to applicants with water or electric utility experience.
Selection process will include complete job description review, personal interview, criminal background investigation, physical abilities test, and drug screen as well as tests for proficiency and accuracy in reading an electric meter dial.
